Demand for deep seaport to reduce expenditure |

Chittagong-- (UNB) - Leaders of the Dock Bandar Sramik Karmachari Federation yesterdaydemanded immediate construction of a deep seaport here to reduce the expenditure of the businessmen. Addressing a press conference at the local press club today, they informed that the businessmen have to spend additional Tk 20,000 crore in export-import sector every year due to want of a deep seaport. A feasibility study to constrict such port was conducted two years back, but the decision is yet to be implemented, they added. General Secretary of the Federation Mahfuzur Rahman read out the written statement. A memorandum containing federation's demands was also submitted to the Chittagong Port Authority. The demands include stopping construction of port in private sector, implementation of the Newmooring terminal and Internal Container Depot (ICD) projects and collection of equipment. |
